Namibia is a diverse country in every way. As one travels from one place to the next, the landscape and colours amaze with constant change. Windhoek, Namibia's capital is centrally situated and the starting point of most travels. The city surprises with colonial and modern architecture, interrupted by African markets. On the way into the Kalahari, home to the San Bushman, the scenery changes from mountainous to red sand dunes covered with golden grass. The gigantic Fish River Canyon is the second largest canyon in the world and quaint Lüderitz, once the flourishing begin of colonial German South West Africa is sandwiched between diamond rich desert sand and the rocky Atlantic coast line. The orange sand dunes of Sossusvlei are of the highest in the world and the strange and pre-historic desert plant Welwitschia mirabilis is endemic to the rubble plains of the ancient Namib desert. Namibia's coast is rough and uncontrolled, the cold dark waters being rich in marine and bird life. Laid-back Swakopmund is the action Mecca of this desert country but also offering more serene activities. Rugged Damaraland bears witness to a bygone culture at Twyfelfontein and is home to the legendary desert dwelling elephants. Desolate Kaokoveld best known for the semi-nomadic Himba people, displays vast, silver plains virtually untouched by human influences. Etosha National Park is renowned for is diversity of wildlife ranging from the gigantic African Elephant to the smallest of creatures. The most northern parts of Namibia with the Caprivi stand in stark contrast with the rest of the country this is Africa !
