(approximately three hours, recommended departure time 7:30 am) The Daan Viljoen Game Reserve is nestled in the Khomas Hochland west of Windhoek and encloses two small dams, which were built by the German colonialists as water storage. The park boasts some wildlife such as various antelopes species and zebras but is mainly famous for its abundance in ornithological variety. The 3 km “Buffalo Thorn Walking Trail” leads past the old Damara graveyard and Stengeldam. En route numerous birds and some wildlife may be observed. Afterwards the Augeigas Dam offers a tranquil setting to relax under the large willow trees.
