The Tribes of Northern Namibia (7 days)

Day 1:
In the morning departure from Windhoek to the north. At Okahandja - the former tribal center of the Herero people and old mission station - visit some Herero graves, the cemetery of the German Schutztruppe and the Kavango woodcarver's market. Via Otjiwarongo and Otavi drive to Tsumeb. At the "Cultural village", an open-air museum, visitors get an insight into the rural life of the Namibian tribes. It displays the life of the majority of Namibians and tell about their history and culture, shows their work and skills in arts and crafts. A visit to the Mine museum ia also planned. Lunch en route.
MAKALANI HOTEL (dinner/overnight/breakfast)

Day 2:
After Breakfast depart for the "Treesleeper Camp" near Tsintsabis. It is home to Hei//omn Bushman, the former habitants of Etosha a surroundings, and the !Kung Bushmen. Until recently the Bushmen practiced a lifestyle of hunting and gathering. They will show you their traditional way of life in a "historic living village". After a light lunch proceed to Farm Hedwigslust, home of the Ombili foundation. The aim of the foundation is to teach the 300 Bushmen living on the farm to become self-sufficent as 'farmes': to sow, produce and harvest crops as an alternative to hunting game, which has become extinct. The Ombili Foundation relies on donations to finance this project. A gratuity of approximately N$ 50.00 is much appreciated. Depart for Mokuti Lodge bordering the Etosha National Park.

Day 3:
Continue further north to Ovamboland, the most densely populated region of Namibia (approximately 600 000 people. The Ovambo consist of 8 sub-tribes. The Nakambale Museum at Olukondo is the first stop, depicting the past and present role of the Finnish Mission, the church and the local cultures. Visit the Ngonga homestead and observe the different demonstrations on wheat crushing, basket weaving, hair braiding, traditional dancing and music etc. A traditional lunch will be served. Proceed to Oshakati via Ondongwa.
OSHAKATI COUNTRY LODGE (dinner/overnight/breakfast)

Day 4:
Travel through the western part of Ovamboland. The landscape is characterized by flat, sandy plains dotted with Makalani palms, savannah and Mopane woodlands. Stop at different attractions. Continue to Opuwo via Ruacana. Lunch packs en route.
OPUWO COUNTRY LODGE (dinner/overnight/breakfast)

Day 5:
Visit a typical Himba settlement.The Himba are a sub-tribe of the Herero - nomads who are living their old tradition and culture. Their cattle is their wealth and so they are roving around the area to feed them. That's why there are several deserted settlements to be seen along the way. A local guide, accompanying the group, will negotiate a visit to a "Kraal" with the headman of the tribe and will explain the lifestyle and the cultur of the Himba. Afterwards return to Opuwo und proceed in southerly direction to Hobatere Lodge at the western border of the Etosha National Park. In the afternoon a game drive will take place. Lunch packs en route.
HOBATERE LODGE (dinner/overnight/breakfast)

Day 6:
Travel through the western part of the Etosha National Park. The Oryx and other antelopes favour this region. West of Okaukuejo is the well-known "Sprokieswoud", Phantom or Fairy Forest, the only place where the African Moringa tree grows in a flat area. Lunch packs en route. Game viewing continiues. At the floodlit waterhole wildlife can be viewed throughout the day and night.
OKAUKUEJO (full board/overnight)

Day 7:
Short game drive in the morning befor leaving the Etosha National Park. Return to Windhoek via Outjo, Otjiwarongo and Okahandja. Lunch en route. Arrival in Windhoek in the afternoon.

Windhoek, pick up from hotel prior to arrangement.

Overland trips and all sightseeing as per itinerary. Overnight in double rooms in hotels and rest camps. Full board throughout the tour. English spaeking tour guide. Multilanguage is possible.
